Ring in the New Year with an abundant arts scene happening in The BC! January is a musical month, featuring performances by folk groups, symphony orchestras, and local bands.

Get lost in an indie-rock fairytale with the band, Ellery performing at the Fairfield Community Arts Center on January 27. Ellery is a husband-wife duo who went from friends to engaged in just four days! Their music is a blend of indie, rock, and acoustic, while having garnered awards and much acclaim since their debut in 2006. Their lush-pop sound will have you fine-tuning your emotional self and wanting more.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts features the Cincinnati-based, award-winning folk music group W ild Carrot & the Roots Band on January 14. Rooted in traditional American music, this group performs a variety of musical styles with guitar, mandolin, dulcimer, concertina, banjo, bass, and vocals. This band has something for everyone and has been described as “honest, soothing, uplifting, and fun!”

Expand your musical range at the Middletown Symphony Orchestra Concert “From Russia With Love” at the Towne Boulevard Church of God on January 28. Bells on horse drawn carriages will ring at the Annual Christmas Walk in Hamilton’s German Village on December 4. Stroll through the village and tour St. Julie Billiart Church, historic buildings, and local restaurants and businesses decorated in full Victorian splendor. New Outdoor Ice Skating Rink Coming to Bridgewater Falls Shopping Center this Holiday Season

Bridgewater Falls Lifestyle Shopping Center is excited to announce they will be featuring an outdoor ice skating rink this holiday season beginning Black Friday, November 25^th. The rink will be located between Mattress Firm and Factory Card & Party Outlet and will give families an additional entertainment option in Butler County. The rink is environmentally-friendly as it consists of synthetic ice, which is a unique plastic polymer that best resembles the consistency of the world’s largest white cutting board. The ice panels are treated with a lubricating solution that reduces contact friction and enhances the glide and speed of the skating experience. When skating on natural ice, the skate blade causes pressure which generates heat and melts the ice, creating a think layer of water which is the source of that smooth skating glide. With Bridgewater Falls’ synthetic ice, the skate blade creates the same heat, causing a release of lubricants in the sprayed-on solution, which gives skaters the feel of skating on natural ice.

Gather one, gather all around the dinner table in The BC! Break bread, create memories, and enjoy the fall festivities happening in all corners of Butler County this month.

Crossing over the covered bridge, take a step back in time to a bustling 1830’s village preparing a Thanksgiving holiday. The Harvest Gathering at Governor Bebb Pioneer Village is November 5 and promises an authentically pioneer day. Visit the trapper’s cabin, the sheriff’s house, blacksmith’s shop, Gray Cat Tavern, and the General Store; all while pioneers busily work around the village. Your family will enjoy crafts for any age, old time music, food samplings, and more!

If you love to pair holiday fare with your Thanksgiving traditions, then head to West Chester for the annual Olde West Chester Christmas Walk Parade and Tree Lighting on November 19. The theme of this night parade is “Spirit of Service” and the lighting of the tree will take place after the parade.

You won’t want to miss the first ever Halloween on the Hill at Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park and Museum in Hamilton on October 22. There will be a variety of family friendly contests with categories featuring Best Handmade Scarecrow or Ghost, Best Pumpkin Carving, and Best Costume for Kids, Adults, and Families. Jump on a hayride around the park to see all the scarecrows and ghosts, monumental sculptures, and fall foliage.

Dress up your pretty pooches at the HowloWeen Costumed Dog Parade in VOA Park on October 9. This event will feature demonstrations by the State Highway Patrol K-9 Unit, vendors with dog products and treats, food for all, and more.

Let the terrors of Halloween begin at Middletown’s Land of Illusion Haunted Theme Park open now through October 31. Colorado Springs, CO - Joyce Park in Hamilton, Ohio has successfully hosted two years of National Target Championship events.

Visitors to the park in July of 2009 and 2010 witnessed the happy embraces, the high fives, the struggles and the triumphs that are part and parcel of this national championship event. The "thwack" of arrows hitting bales, the symphony of hundreds of clickers and releases going off together, and the beep of the timing system will echo through Joyce Park once again, as National Target Championships return to Hamilton from June 27 to July 1, 2012.

Next year, however, the event will evolve to include the Easton JOAD Nationals, the youth championship event that determines the JOAD Grand National Champions. According to USA Archery CEO Denise Parker, "This should be a great event combining our Youth and Adult national events. I expect this to be the event of the year and an opportunity to celebrate our sport. The timing also allows us to celebrate the send off of our team headed to the Olympic Games in London."

At the recent USA Archery Annual Meeting, attendees were advised that recommendations will be made to the USAA Board of Directors on schedule, eligibility and format of the two events during the December board meeting. It was also noted that in past years, there has been solid support from the Butler County Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as the large archery community in the Cincinnati metro area.

Though specific event details have yet to be released, those who have competed in Hamilton before have expressed their pleasure at the tournament's return to Ohio, praising the location for its "driveability" for archers in many parts of the United States, as well as the close proximity of several major airports, and ease of access from local hotels to the competition venue.

"Returning to Butler County made sense to us," explains USA Archery National Events Manager Katrina Weiss. "USA Archery has received great support from the Butler County Convention and Visitors' Bureau in the past, and the Cincinnati area has a strong and vibrant archery community. We look forward to bringing this combined event back to Hamilton."

Head out to Hamilton for The Great Miami River Days along the banks of the Great Miami River on September 10-11. Great Miami River Days is one of the largest water events in the country! This event features tunnel boat races, more than 20 educational booths, food, crafters, historical re-enactors, rides, a jet ski and ski show, wake boarders, rowing, music, fireworks, and more!

The Germans are known for their love of adult beverages and the German Village Historic District in Hamilton is no different! The German Village Pub Crawl on September 24 will feature drink specials and a roaring good time at all of the uptown pubs and bars in Hamilton.

Check out the nation’s largest and most exciting Model Air Show coming to Hamilton. The Greater Cincinnati Radio Control Club (GCRCC) is a group of model airplane enthusiasts who put on a radio control model air show every summer called The Flying Circus. This year will be The 51st Annual Flying Circus will be held August 6-7 at the Butler County Regional Airport in Hamilton and will cover two days featuring over 200 model aircraft of all kinds, from helicopters to jets, to a rocket powered Space Shuttle.

Celebrate art in the heart of Middletown at the First Friday Downtown Middletown event on August 5. This monthly celebration of the regional arts community features artists’ studios and galleries, the Pendleton Art Center and BeauVerre Stained Glass Studio will be open, boutique shopping, live music, and dining at the All About You Café.

The event was last held in Vichy, France in 2009 and drew 47 competitors from 18 countries!

Spring brings with it refreshing energy, creativity, and expression. The arts scene in The BC reflects all these qualities and we want to share them with you!

The Ohio Mozart Festival kicks off every spring in The BC and is a weeklong event that is filled with artistic activities! The Festival, which takes place in various spots throughout the county on April 9-17, will include a Meters for Mozart 5K Run/Walk, a Feast and Frolic Dinner with entertainment and a silent auction, the Ohio Mozart Festival Grand Finale Concert, an Afterglow Party at Ryan’s Tavern, and more.

Head over to the heart of Middletown for the Preview Opening of the NEW Pendleton Art Center on April 1. Several artists will be showing off their work and the All About You Café will be serving specialties of the house. Save the date for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Pendleton Art Center on May 6.

Pay homage to 20th century women who brought Paris to the world with their songs at the Women of Paris event at the Fairfield Community Arts Center on April 29. Join Claudia Hommel and Elizabeth Doyle as they celebrate a number of women through beautiful piano music.

Right here in Butler County you can see all of these things at Kite Fest at VOA Park in West Chester on April 9-10. This outdoor event features kites of all shapes and sizes, activities for kids including a kit building workshop, a parachute run, and play areas. Kite Fest is also showcasing The Chicago Fire Kite Team!

Lace up your running shoes for the Meters for Mozart 5K Run/Walk at Waterworks Park in Fairfield for the Ohio Mozart Festival on April 9. The race starts at 9 a.m. is a fun way to exercise outside, support the arts, and enjoy April! The Ohio Mozart Festival also features a variety of events throughout the

week of April 9-17.

Enjoy the ice one more time at the Annual Ice Show in Oxford at the Goggin Ice Center on April 15-16. The “Night at the Goggin” family-friendly, theatrical production features Miami University’s own Synchronized Skating teams, as well as Miami University’s Men’s Ice Hockey team.

The arts and gala scene is exploding in The BC throughout March! With art hops, fundraisers, and benefits happening throughout the county, you and your family will definitely have a ball.

The First Friday Art Hop is happening in downtown Middletown on March 4 and will feature the arts in many different forms! You’ll have the chance to walk around and visit current and new businesses in the downtown area, tour art spaces, and meet some talented artists!

Guests can walk through the oldest continually operating stained glass studio in the country, the BeauVerre Riordan Stained Glass Studio, as well as seeing the newly named “Third Street Studios” which includes Walden Gallery, Legacy Fineart Studio, Hollywood Dance Attire, and Bella A-Unique-Boutique. Show your appreciation to the arts at the Heart of the Arts Gala at the Oxford Community Arts Center on March 19 . The event features dinner, a silent auction, and performances by Gary Scott and Dalia Garcia, Doug Hamilton and the Wildwater Band, the Oxford Arts Trio, and more.

Celebrate and support your favorite four-legged friends this March at the Animal Friends Humane Society’s Bark ‘n’ Purr Ball on March 19 at Receptions in Fairfield. The event will feature dinner, a live auction, a silent auction, super raffles, a split the pot, a Chinese raffle, and more! What’s your favorite winter sport? If you are a hockey or basketball fan, The BC is where you’ll want to be! Butler County is home to some of the most prestigious sports teams in the country.

Miami University’s Men’s Ice Hockey team has competed in the NCAA Tournament eight times and has traveled to the Frozen Four twice! Head over to Goggin Ice Center in Oxford for a weekend full of hockey! The Miami Redhawks take on the Western Michigan Broncos on February 11 and 12.

Let’s keep it in Oxford with a Miami Men’s Basketball game! The basketball program is proud to call retired member of five NBA championship teams and second leading scorer in MAC history Ron Harper an alumni! Check out the Redhawks as they take on Bowling Green in the game at Millett Hall on February 26.

If running is more your speed, grab your sweetie and take part in the Valentine’s 5K Run in Middletown on February 13. With the Middletown YMCA Street Striders sponsoring the event, the race will be fun for couples, singles, and families!
